How To Link Your Lines to NIN

The Nigerian telecommunication service providers have announced simple steps that subscribers can take to link their SIM cards with their National Identity Number (NIN).

It had been reported that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) mandated telcos in the country to block all active SIMs that are not registered with NIN by December 31, 2020.

This implies that failure of the subscribers to update their registration records with NIN will lead to the blocking or disconnection of the line within 2 weeks. Though there has been a huge outcry by the general public about the immediate announcement of the policy and short time frame to enforce it.

The Nigerian Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has also directed that subscribers can link their NIN to more than one SIM card, and this can be achieved by taking their NIN to the office of their respective service providers.

Also, the commission warned the general public to be careful of fraudsters and scammers who are on the roam to defraud unsuspecting people.

The Nigerian Identity Management Commission (NIMC) said that Nigerians who already enrolled in the NIMC scheme but have lost their NIN can retrieve it by dailing the short USSD code *346#. The commission also stated that short USSD code is available on all networks in Nigeria (MTN, Airtel, Glo, 9mobile).

Although, some Nigerians who have the NIN do not know how to go about linking their SIM card to the 11-digit number.

  • Then complete the NIN linking form by filling your details which include: your name, phone number, NIN, and email address.
